  • Make sure all parts are working properly.

  • Make sure the tires are inflated properly.

BE VISIBLE

  • Ride during daylight hours if possible.

  • Wear bright or reflective clothing.

WEAR A HELMET

  • Adults & kids alike should wear helmets at all times while riding.

  • Make sure the fit is correct.

FOLLOW THE RULES

  • Obey street signs, signals and road markings, just like a car.

  • Avoid distractions and remain alert.

  • When entering traffic, stop and look in every direction, including over your shoulder.

  • Ride with the flow of traffic in the same direction.

  • Use hand signals when turning.

  • Be extra careful at intersections.

  • If riding with other cyclists, ride single-file.

  • Watch for hazards in the road such as trash, rocks, potholes and grates.

  • Watch for opening car doors and for cars backing out of driveways.

  • Watch for pedestrians and warn them when you approach.

  • Never “hitch” on vehicles while riding.

  • When in doubt, SLOW DOWN OR STOP.
